Maroon Bells and San Juan Mountains In Autumn, CO
Sept 29 - Oct 5,
2007
The autumn color in the
Colorado Mountains in early October is truly magnificent. The
Maroon Bells, probably the most spectacular peaks in Colorado,
tower into the blue Colorado sky. Golden aspen trees line the
valley and encircle Maroon Lake at the base of the Bells. Nearby
are the interesting and photogenic ghost towns of Ashcroft and
Independence.
The San Juan Mountains,
some of the most rugged peaks in Colorado, are called "The
Switzerland of America." These spectacular peaks, the beautiful
lakes, and the old mining towns provide wonderful photographic
material. The aspen trees at the higher elevations of the San
Juans and on Dallas Divide should be at their best during this
week and the cottonwood trees at the lower elevations should also
be turning.
During the week, we will
visit the picturesque ghost town of Animas Forks and photograph
the Durango to Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Usually, by this
time of year, new snow blankets the peaks and contrasts
beautifully with the autum color.
Plan to join us for an
unforgettable week of color in the scenic Colorado high
country.
