Monument Valley and Hunt's Mesa, Arizona and Utah
April 25 - May 1,
2008
The Plateau
Country of northern Arizona contains some of the most
spectacular scenery in the western United States. Monument
Valley is a symphony in stone where great free-standing
monoliths point eroded maroon fingers a thousand feet
into the sky. Sunrises and sunsets are especially spectacular
with fantastically-shaped buttes silhouetted against the sky.
Of the four days we will
photograph in Monument Valley, three days will be spent with
Native American guides who will take our group to spectacular
locations inaccessible to the general public.
Hunt's Mesa is a high plateau
which towers 1,000 feet above the southern edge of Monument Valley. It
overlooks the buttes, totem poles, and arches in the valley below and
provides a unique perspective of Monument Valley. We will stay on Hunt's
Mesa overnight so that we can photograph both a sunset and sunrise. On
Hunt’s Mesa, our Navajo guides will provide tents, sleeping bags, foam pads,
and food for the group. On this one night, you must be willing to "rough it"
a little to take advantage of this outstanding opportunity.
While in the Monument Valley area,
we will also visit the Great Goosenecks State Park, Mexican Hat, and other
scenic features in the area. Come and join us for a week in the spectacular
red rock country of northern Arizona and southern Utah.
