The Oregon Coast

September 17 - 23, 2011

Along the Pacific Coast of Oregon, the pounding waves have sculpted a seascape of rugged and picturesque beauty. This is a world of sea stacks, wave-carved arches, fog, crashing waves, and interesting bird and animal life.
We will drive the entire Oregon Coast and emphasize Cannon Beach with its dramatic offshore stacks, Cape Kiwanda with its crashing surf, Bandon Beach with the largest concentration of offshore rocks along the Pacific coast, and Harris Beach just north of the California boarder.
The sun angles, tides, fog, clouds, and surf conditions are some of the variables that will challenge your photographic skills. We will explore these beaches at low tide when sea stars and other tide pool creatures are exposed. Sunset photography is especially dramatic . Backlit sea stacks form silhouettes against an orange red sky which is reflected onto the beach and water in the foreground.

Late September is the optimum time of year weather-wise to photograph the Oregon Coast. As temperatures inland moderate, fog along the coast is not as common as in the summer time. This Workshop includes all lodging, transportation from Portland, and a continental breakfast each morning. Participants pay for all other meals. Be sure to book early for this popular Workshop.
