San Juan Mountains In Autumn, CO
Oct 2 - 8,
2010
The autumn color in
the Colorado mountains in early October is truly magnificent.
The San Juan Mountains, some of the most rugged peaks in Colorado,
are called "The Switzerland of America". These spectacular peaks,
the beautiful lakes, and the old mining towns provide wonderful
photographic material.
We will photograph
extensively along the Million Dollar Highway which crosses three
lofty mountain passes between Ouray and Durango. Another high
priority will be the Dallas Divide area near Ridgway which has great
autumn color as well as picturesque zig-zag fences leading up to
the Sneffels Range. We will also explore the areas around Telluride,
Lost Dollar Road, and Owl Creek Pass in the Cimmaron Range.
A highlight of the week is
photographing the Durango to Silverton narrow gauge railroad as it
winds thru the scenic areas of the southern San Juan Mountains. We
also plan to visit the old ghost town of Animas Forks which combines
wonderful scenery and historical buildings. The aspen trees and oak
brush at the higher elevations of the San Juans and on Dallas Divide
should be at their best during this week.
Join us for an unforgettable
week of autumn color and history in the scenic Colorado high country
in early October.
